Productivity hacks when #wfh

Have you found that while working from home, you tend to work more, because you can? The studies have shown that people are working on average an extra 2 hours per day since working from home. We have removed the commute to and from the office, and our laptop is ALWAYS accessible.

I’ve been working from home for over 8 years and I absolutely love the flexibility and freedom that it provides for the whole family (school and daycare pickups etc). Here are some tips I’ve picked up along the way:

  1. Ensure your workspace is separate. If you don’t have a home office, then try and use a corner space away from the everyday family living area.
  2. Prepare for the day as if you are going to the office: dress for success. Also, make your bed! These two tasks set up your day and give you the confidence to move onto more tasks.
  3. Write a list of things to do that day (personal and work) and this will keep you on track.
  4. Set a start and an end time for work and stick to it.
  5. Keep hydrated: Use a small cup and get up regularly to refill! 2L of water a day is ideal.
  6. Incidental exercise: walk at lunchtime, walking /standing meetings, light housework = exercise.
  7. Vitamin D: get outside and get some sunshine during your day. Stepping away from your screen for lunch is very important for your mental health!

And make sure you are set up correctly with the right ergonomic equipment!  This will save you time and money down the track.
